Event TIPS for Members

Ready to join us at a PMAH event? Here are fun ways to attend your first event.

1. Bring your friends!
Let's face it. Most of us are at least a little bit reluctant to go someplace where we don't know anyone. The PMAH solution: Bring a mom and playmate or the whole gang from your PMAH playgroup with you. Or bring a stay-at-home mom friend (and her children), so she can learn more about PMAH—and then join! Inviting a friend is an easy way to attend an event without feeling "out of the loop" while you meet members of the larger PMAH family.

2. Try something or someplace new!
PMAH events include activities and play locations that are well-known favorites among moms and kids as well as many others that are off the beaten path, even for long-time residents of the area.  If you are new to the area, you can quickly learn about local parks, activities and attractions for children by attending PMAH events. If you are familiar with most activities in your immediate area, try attending a PMAH event that is farther away. Thanks to our broad geographic membership, PMAH sponsors events all across Anne Arundel County, in surrounding counties, in our two neighboring cities (DC and Baltimore) and over on the Eastern Shore. (Because we know what it's like to drive with small children, even these adventures are within an hour's drive of our members' homes.)

3. Arrange an event yourself!
Wouldn't you like to share your children's favorite place or activity with others moms and have a terrific reason to go there/do it again? PMAH certainly hasn't "done it all." Or maybe PMAH held an event that you really wanted to try, but the day or time didn't fit your schedule. You don't have to be an official member of the Events Committee to arrange an event. All you have to do is be willing to arrange the event, and take phone calls and/or emails from members who RSVP, want more details or need directions. To put an event on the calendar, contact the Events Chair, to schedule a day and time. (The committee does try to stagger days and times of events so some of each month's events are available to every member, regardless of part-time work schedules, children's nap times, other activities or preschool.) Arranging an event is a great way to meet other PMAH moms, as it's natural for the "hostess" to meet and greet the members who attend.

Don't forget to RSVP!
Even the simplest play date in the park requires some coordination by the mom arranging it. Maybe there's an alternate plan in case of rain. Maybe PMAH is supplying treats and we need a head count so no child goes without. On the other hand, paid events often require an advanced deposit from PMAH. And for any "Space Limited" event, your RSVP holds a spot for your child(ren), often requiring another child to be turned away. For these events, if you must cancel, please call a couple of days in advance (illness being an exception).
